Abseil down the rock face beside Sipi's main waterfall, with spray on your face and views across the plains. No experience needed.
Abseiling, also called rappelling, means lowering yourself down a rock face on a rope while a trained guide controls the safety line. At Sipi you go down about 100 metres beside the main waterfall. Local guides also run beginner rock-climbing routes on the cliffs.
Sipi Falls in Kapchorwa District, on the slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda.
About 2 to 4 hours, including the safety briefing and the walk back up. No experience is needed. One person goes down the rope at a time, so groups take turns. It pairs well with a waterfall hike and a coffee tour.
Level 3, Moderate. The rope takes your weight, but the height, the wet rock and the steep walk back up make it a real adventure.
