Quad biking

What it is

A quad bike, also called an ATV, is a four-wheel motorbike. After a short training session, even complete beginners can ride one. A guide leads the group on dirt trails through villages, farms and forest, and along the lake or river shore. It is one of the most popular activities for friends and staff groups.

Where in Uganda

Kalangala in the Ssese Islands, Jinja near the River Nile, and Extreme Adventure Park in Busiika, north of Kampala.

What to expect

Rides last 1 to 4 hours. The group rides in a line behind the guide, with stops for photos. Expect dust in the dry season and mud after rain.

Activity level

Level 2, Easy. Little walking, but you need basic control of the bike, and bumpy tracks can be tiring.

Good to know

• Always wear the helmet, closed shoes and clothes that can get dirty.
• Ride at the guide’s speed and keep a safe distance from the quad in front.
• Teens and adults ride alone; younger children ride with a guide.
• No alcohol before riding.
• Sunglasses help with the dust.
