A family-run Buganda village in Naggalama, Mukono: farm walks, luwombo cooking, crafts, music and dance, about an hour from Kampala.
Ewaffe Cultural Village is a family-run, community-based cultural village in Naggalama, Mukono District, on the Kayunga road about 30 km from Kampala. It shows everyday Buganda (Kiganda) village life through things you do with your own hands.
Ewaffe is the easiest way to spend a real “people day” close to Kampala and Entebbe. Visitors join in rather than watch. In 2024 Ewaffe was named Best Cultural Tourism Experience of the Year at Uganda’s World Tourism Day celebrations. It suits travellers who want to meet people, not only see animals, as well as families, schools and company teams.
At Ewaffe the people side is the whole day. Your hosts show how a Kiganda home works: food from the garden, respect for elders, sharing meals, and passing stories and skills from one generation to the next. You eat together, try the crafts with the people who make them, and leave with a better feel for life in central Uganda than any guidebook can give. Ewaffe has welcomed Two Servants guests before and agreed to be named as a culture partner. The Ewaffe programme is included in your trip, so what you pay goes to your hosts.
Ewaffe works all year as a day trip.
Allow 1 to 1.5 hours from Kampala and 1.5 to 2 hours from Entebbe. Ewaffe is in Mukono District, not in Mpigi. Our open day trips leave from Oryx Fuel Station, Lugogo, in Kampala; private groups set their own pickup.
The village’s own programme lasts about 4 hours on site, so a visit fits easily into a day. Walking is easy and mostly flat, Level 2. There is a shaded eating area, toilets, and crafts and coffee for sale.
