Why you will love this trip
Kidepo Valley National Park lies in Karamoja, in the far north-east of Uganda, close to South Sudan and Kenya. It feels like the Africa of old films: a wide golden valley ringed by mountains, and often no other vehicle all morning. It is the only park in Uganda with cheetahs and ostriches, and in the dry months large herds of buffalo, elephants, zebras and Rothschild’s giraffes gather in the Narus Valley, where lions often rest on the rocks.
On the way north you stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track southern white rhinos on foot with a ranger. Rhinos are coming back to Uganda: in March 2026 UWA moved the first rhinos from Ziwa into a fenced area of Kidepo, the first there since 1983.
The people side of this trip is a morning with a Karamojong family at their manyatta, a cattle-keeping homestead. The visit is run by the community and included in your price, so what you pay goes to your hosts.
Kidepo is remote, and that is its charm. The road days are long, so this trip suits travellers who enjoy the journey. If you prefer, we can price a flight in or out.
