Cultural village visits

What it is

Time spent with a rural community, hosted by the people who live there. You see how food is grown and cooked, hear local history, try traditional skills and share a meal. The visits we arrange are run by the communities themselves and are included in your trip, so what you pay goes to your hosts.

Where in Uganda

Ewaffe Cultural Village near Kampala, named Best Cultural Tourism Experience of the Year at Uganda’s World Tourism Day 2024 celebrations. Also communities near Bwindi, Kibale (Bigodi), Lake Bunyonyi and Sipi.

What to expect

From 2 hours to a full day. Ewaffe is a day trip from Kampala. You can go as a private group or join one of our group trips, and families are welcome. Expect to be invited to take part, not just to watch.

Activity level

Level 2, Easy. Short walks on village paths and time sitting down.

Good to know

  • Always ask before you photograph people.
  • Dress modestly: cover your shoulders and knees.
  • Please do not give sweets or money to children. If you want to help, ask us how to do it well.
  • Come hungry and try the local food.
