Why you will love this trip
Lake Mburo is the closest savannah park to Kampala and Entebbe, and the best place in Uganda to see zebras and eland. In two days you get a real safari: game drives among zebras, impala, topi, buffaloes and giraffes, a boat trip on the lake close to hippos and water birds, and something few parks allow, a walk on foot with an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger.
There are no elephants here and lions are not regular residents, so come for zebras, birds and calm, not for big cats. That quiet is exactly why you can explore on foot.
This is also cattle country, home of the long-horned Ankole cattle. Just east of the park, 102 local landowners came together in 2013 to form the Rurambira Community Conservancy (RCC), where zebras, impala and other wildlife share the land with cattle-keeping families. On the second morning you visit the conservancy with its community guides and hear how people here live alongside both their herds and the wildlife. The visit is run by the conservancy and included in your trip, so what you pay goes to the community.
You travel in a hired 4×4 safari vehicle with an experienced driver-guide and sleep one night in a mid-range lodge. It suits first-time visitors, families and anyone with only a weekend to spare.
